Hi Tim, thanks for your input. I think that our collective chance lies in the new technologies that we are developing for communication. Of course, it will never be the same as knowing the 150 members of your tribe personally — but do we have a better choice than trying to connect that way?

For me, Medium is a real example that an online community can actually be a community. Sure, the 90 million (or so) Medium users will never know about everyone else’s existence. Yet, it is possible for pretty much everyone here to share common values, like the diversity of perspectives, the respect for one another and so on. This makes me hope that a global tribe may be possible in the future.
