How to Use Your Memories to Guide Your Future
Your past may be helpful in creating the future you want
Over the Easter break, I spent some time with my brother. It’s a rare treat these days. We live in different countries, which means we can’t connect as often as we used to.
When we do, one of the conversation topics we instinctively go to is…shared memories. Sometimes, we speak about school times. Or, our adventures in the countryside where we spent every summer as kids.
This time, we thought back to the two-year period of living just the two of us during college years.
“And do you remember how the landlord used to come for tea…”
“That wild party we threw that year, I mostly just remember how it ended…”
“And the period when we went on a clean raw diet while still smoking tons of cigarettes, remember that?”
We walked and talked, and tried to outdo each other at how many stories, anecdotes, and people we could remember. I could see those memories coming alive in my mind’s eye.
And then, it hit me. Now is a period of our lives when we aren’t creating many new memories together. We live too far apart. So, we’re showing each other affection and nurturing our bond by cherishing the precious memories we…
