I’m so pleased I created a Trello for my mess

This is what happens when I set a challenge for myself and then get confronted with the reality of doing it. Finding time to write a daily Medium post, considering all the other things I’m doing, is hard.

But do you know what is even harder? Switching context.

I realized that it’s not the sheer amount of work that’s overwhelming and anxiety-inducing for me. It’s the number of things I’m involved in. It’s not wanting to let go of any of them.

The strategy right now is to not take on news things. And, organize the mess that I already have.

Yesterday, I finally created a Trello board for myself. I made columns for each project / area that I’m working on, and gave them coloured labels. I made one column for tracking tasks for the current week to know what’s coming.

Just the act of organizing these brought me some peace of mind.

The amount of work (and personal projects — not sure what counts as work these days…) didn’t change. But the level of entropy was brought down by a few points.

This is what matters for today. This is what makes the mess feel a bit more joyful, and a bit less threatening.
