What a great question, Jordan! You got me thinking here for a while... But in the end, I think I did need it.

I needed it to exaggerate my tendency to be hard on myself. It's easier to notice that tendency when it comes from something I imposed on myself - self-improvement "goals." But then, I also see it working in other areas of my life in parallel. And finally it feels like I can slowly start leaving it behind :)
